My grandfather

Famous Carpenter and Builder

Henry is famed for his accomplished building and carpentry. He built some of the stairs in the famous Union Buildings in Pretoria, South Africa.

Accomplished Farmer

Henry was a great farmer. At one point he had 6 farms. He farmed crops as well as animals. One of my earliest memories was visiting his farm after harvesting peanuts, and climbing on the huge piles of peanuts drying in the sun.

One of his farms he "donated" to the government of South Africa for treating and studying animals. That farm is since known as "Onderstepoort", and is a world famous Veterinary Hospital and centre for Veterinary Studies run by the University of Pretoria. Many accomplished veterinarians have been trained there, and ironically our current veterinarian in Surrey, UK was trained there.
